Nutrition Counseling for Eating Disorders
Nutrition Balance provides nutrition counseling for eating disorders in West Hartford Center — one-on-one with Romely Ritoli, R.D., CD-N, in person or by telehealth, with fees reimbursed by several health plans. Counseling offers support and structure for meal planning, balanced nutrition education, and collaboration with your multidisciplinary treatment team.
In the United States, anorexia nervosa or bulimia affect 1 million males and 10 million females — life and death eating disorders. 40% of newly identified cases of anorexia are girls 15–19 years old, and it has the highest rate of mortality of any mental illness. Millions more struggle with binge eating disorders. Due to shame and secrecy many cases remain unreported.

How a Registered Dietitian helps
Eating disorders are complex and devastating conditions which affect individuals from every walk of life, age group, all ethnicities and races. They are not fads, a choice to endure, and have serious consequences on an individual's health. Eating disorders are treatable and have a greater outcome if treatment is attained earlier.
A Registered Dietitian provides support and structure for meal planning when needed, educates patients on a balanced pattern of nutrition and collaborates with the multidisciplinary treatment team to help individuals achieve and maintain a healthy weight for optimal recovery. A dietitian can help dispel pervasive dietary myths that often perpetuate eating disordered behaviors.
