Eating Healthy Before, During and After Pregnancy
If you are thinking about becoming pregnant or are pregnant, you have probably spent many moments thinking about your new baby and the changes that will occur in your life. Entering into pregnancy is like walking through a door into a new chapter in your life. Whether you have gone through life unaware of your body's signals or have closely taken care of your body, the changes that occur during and after pregnancy are difficult to ignore.
You can minimize the risks and maximize the likelihood of having a healthy baby, an enjoyable pregnancy and a swift recovery if you take the time to learn how to eat well. A well nourished body is the source for needed energy and resiliency.
What do nutrition services for pregnancy include?
- Prepregnancy: reasons to supplement; dispelling myths and misconceptions; alcohol, caffeine, drugs, tobacco; pregnancy diet plan
- During pregnancy: a pregnant woman shares what she eats with her growing fetus. The many nutrients that food is composed of provide energy and are the building blocks that form the cells, tissue, fiber, bone, muscle, and organs that develop a baby
- Expected changes in your body: weight gain and why; morning sickness, fatigue, food and mood changes, constipation, heartburn, gestational diabetes
- Nutrition and nursing: your goal for the first year after pregnancy is to eat enough nutrient-dense foods to stay healthy and satisfied and to replenish nutritional stores
- Postpregnancy: nutrition and breastfeeding; eating to avoid colic; spacing pregnancies; weight loss
